Fake customer care and screen-sharing apps

You search online for a bank, airline or delivery app’s helpline, call the number you find, and “support” asks you to install an app.

What it looks like

Search result: “Refund Helpline 24x7”

Sir, to process your refund please install AnyDesk from Play Store and tell me the 9-digit code. Then open your bank app and enter ₹10 to verify.

How it works

  1. Scammers post fake helpline numbers on search results, maps listings and social media.
  2. They make you install a screen-sharing app and open your bank or UPI app.
  3. They watch you type your PIN and OTP, or take control and send money.

Red flags

  • Helpline numbers from search results, comments or maps listings rather than the company’s own app or website.
  • Any request to install AnyDesk, TeamViewer, QuickSupport or similar.
  • A “refund” that needs you to pay or enter your PIN.

What to do

  • Get helpline numbers only from the official app, website or the back of your card.
  • Never install a remote-access app because a caller asked.
  • If you did, uninstall it, change your banking passwords from another phone, call your bank and 1930.
